Curling Club Closed

Sutherland Curling Club Closed till January

As has been the case since March of this year plans are ever changing and we must adapt with the changes.  As we are all aware Covid 19 cases are on the rise and are putting a strain on our health care workers and systems.

As well we also know, SHA has put a pause on all team sports until at least the 17th of December.  With the still rising number of cases the Executive as well as Gene and myself met to discuss our options at this time and felt that the SHA will more than likely “Pause” the team sport into the New Year.

Here is a bit of an excerpt from President Dean Kleiter’s message to the board.

“The executive met with Dwayne and Gene last night to discuss best case scenarios moving forward.  With the cases on the rise and the next two (2) weeks not sounding great we felt we should revisit our original plan.”.

Three options were discussed and the following option will be implemented;

Turn the ice plant off and heater down.  Let mother nature keep the ice frozen until we decide to start up again.  Save probably $7,000 per month on utility costs and save the $5,000 on install.  We have never done this before, but thought it was worth a try.  With this option we could get up and running in less than a week.

With that decision the plant will be turned off on Friday December 4th, the heat turned down and let “Mother Nature” keep our ice frozen till we are able to enjoy the sport we love again in the New Year.   We will adjust as more information becomes available we will keep all of you updated.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the office.

The registration will be open as soon as we make contact with all of the teams that participated in the league previously. We will not be starting this league until after the Thanksgiving Long weekend to give the club time to see which teams are still coming back and to find teams to fill the league if necessary.  Once we know how many teams will be returning, we will then open up registration for the open spots.
Open Doubles – Wednesday 8:45 p.m. – 3 Sheets.

Open Triples – 3 Sheets.
A short run down on triples is as follows;

Welcome Back

Where Have You Been, We Have Missed You!!

We hope that you and your family have remained safe and healthy during these chaotic times.

We are excited to be able to welcome each one of our valued members, new members and staff back to the club.

Based on the guidelines from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, we are excited to announce the reopening of our Curling Club using all six sheets of ice.

 Now that everyone has gone through a very different spring and summer season, we at the Sutherland Curling Club (SCC) are excited and looking forward to the return of curling this year.

REGISTRATION

The registration program will be the same as last year.  We are recommending that everyone register on-line so that the congestion around the front desk will be minimal.  If you are not comfortable registering on-line you can come into the office and do so.  If you are coming into the office to register, we recommend that you come in prior to the start of curling to help relieve the congestion at the desk.

Again, this year the Curling I/O Registration program will be able to register five (5) and six (6) player teams.

If you are unsure if you will have a five or six player team, please “DON’T” register until you are certain one way or the other.

League fees, CARF (building repair fee), Fundraising Fee and CurlSask/CurlCanada fees have remained the same.  An additional $15.00 Covid-19 Cleaning fee (players only pay this once no matter how many leagues they play in) was added to help cover the extra cleaning costs that the SCC will incur so that we can ensure that the facility is clean and safe for all.

This fee will be paid by all curlers using our facility.
We know that this year may have been rather difficult financially for some people so we can offer a payment plan. If you would like to pay your fees in two installments you will be able to pay half when you register and pay the remainder by November 1st.

Please click REGISTER and you will be taken to the registration program.

Early Registration

Hope everyone had a great summer and now looking forward to the new curling season that is fast approaching.

Many members have taken advantage of the early registration process both on-line and in person.

For those teams that do not have anyone registered, please have one of your team members register so that the schedules can be made ahead of the first day of curling.

To alleviate the stress on the first days of curling I encourage members over the next two weeks to continue to either come in and visit us at the office to register or register on-line. Please go to sutherland.curling.io to register.  The more people that register ahead of time, the smoother the first day of curling will go.
